The America the Modern Democratic Party Loathes

Written November 9, 2012

Have you ever seen the Norman Rockwell picture with a family sitting around a dining room table celebrating Thanksgiving together?
The family is probably two or three generations of nuclear families.  Based on the house, their dress, and the spread, they are financially comfortable.   They probably own their home.  They are most likely productive members of society - civic minded hardworking tax payers.  They are most likely Christians.  This family is white, but they could just as easily be a family of African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, Or a conglomeration of all races… America is, after all, a melting pot.

This scene is less about the outward appearance of the family - it is about the inner values that direct their lives.

In my opinion, this represents the American dream.  Not that everyone needs to live this way.  Many people live differently than this and are very happy.  Good for them.  But most people I love and respect would view this picture and feel pleasant thoughts.  They might even feel nostalgic for a better, simpler time.

Okay.  Let me make this clear.  Many Americans in 2016 view this picture very differently.

What do they see?

  • They see racists
  • They see bigots
  • They see homophobes
  • They see misogynists
  • They see sexists
  • They see elitists

To many 2016 Americans this picture represents all that is wrong with America and the world!

In fact, the man who has been elected twice to the presidency of the United States - President Barak Obama - hates everything traditional America stands for.

America has been in a culture war the past 20, 30, or 40 years - and the people who like this picture have lost every battle.

Crazy?  Of course, but this is not your father's America.  It's not even your America.  This country has been turned on it's head over the past couple decades and it should be no surprise to us.  Look at public education, movies, TV, etc.  Our society glorifies sin and denigrates decency.  The America of our childhood is not the America of 2016.

Most alarmingly - our society has contempt for Christians and Christianity.  Christians in name only are fine.  They especially hate Christians who believe in Christ and try to follow his teachings.

Now, prepare for this.  A conservative Christian can no longer win a national election.  Ted Cruz is a GREAT CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVE!  Marco Rubio is an excellent Christian conservative (ignoring the Gang of 8 immigration proposal).  If they were the Republican nominee I would enthusiastically support them! Unfortunately, if we learned anything from the last two presidential elections - neither of them can win the presidency.

Why can't they win?

(1) The demographics have changed dramatically over the past 20 years.  Third world citizens who have little respect for Western Civilization and the Puritan Work Ethic have been imported into the U.S. for decades and they are no longer required to assimilate - they are only required to vote for Democrats.

(2) Conservative Republicans can't win the Reagan Democrats because of their stance on economic freedom and particularly their support of free trade agreement.

(3) Conservative Republicans are easy to characterize as sexists, bigots, racists, homophobes, and any other ist or phobe the media and Democrats decide we are.  Democrats believe these accusations are true, and low information voters blindly and ignorantly accept whatever pop culture tells them.

Our country has changed.

Principled conservative politicians are a thing of the past at the national level.  Actually, come to think of it, the only principled conservative in the past 100 years was arguably Ronald Reagan.
